Heavy Industry Issues “Code Red” for Europe: Urgent Call to Halt 2026 Carbon Cost Hikes
As EU leaders prepare for a critical summit on competitiveness, Euromines and a coalition of energy-intensive industries have issued a "Code Red" warning for the continent’s industrial base. Citing a loss of 200,000 jobs in 2025 and production drops of up to 40%, the group is demanding an immediate freeze on carbon cost increases scheduled for 2026. The joint statement argues that without competitive energy capped at 50 €/MWh and aggressive trade defense against unfair global practices, Europe faces "irreversible deindustrialisation" that will compromise its strategic autonomy and climate goals.
